Stillwater is the proud home to a diverse and unique art community featuring  art galleries downtown or antique malls selling visual art, multiple art fairs or open studio events, live music concerts year-round, and performing arts. Celebrate new and established local artists and mediums. Check out the Calendar of Events for ideas.

DIY STUDIO CRAFTS – The laid-back vibe and scenic beauty of the St. Croix River Valley is an inspiration for all creative souls. As you walk through town, see if you can find the historic themed murals featured on downtown buildings and alleyways or find your inner artist with a stop at a DIY studio to craft your own project using paint, pottery, woodjewelryfused glass or metal clay, or yarn. Great for group make & take experiences!

ART FAIRS & EVENTS –   Browse local and nationally known artwork at several main events: Take Me to the River (Sept), Rivertown Art Festival (Oct), St. Croix Valley Potter’s Tour (May), St. Croix Valley Art Opener Studio Tour (May).

LIVE MUSIC & DANCING – Stillwater’s nightlife scenic is vibrant. A wide variety of music awaits you at the night clubs, wine bistros, pubs and restaurants of Stillwater. Listen to live music at one of the many indoor or outdoor music concerts held in Lowell Park, Pioneer Park, restaurants, and other local venues. Music variety for all tastes – jazz, rock, country, karaoke, open mic, top 40 DJ, dancing, acoustic, local bands.

STAGE THEATER – Downtown Stillwater will soon have a new stage theater! The Zephyr Theater has been purchased is open with some events but has grand plans for expansion opening spring 2020. Phipps Theatre is also across the river in Hudson, WI and just north 40 minutes in the quaint town of St. Croix Falls is the St. Croix Festival Theatre.

Fused Glass projects and Metal Clay Jewelry classes and parties! ​Welcome to the coolest studio doing the warmest arts with space for BYOB or catered parties plus cool music and fun instructors. Let us walk you through the easy craft of glass fusing such as glass plates, bowls, vases, lamps and advanced fusing classes. You can also try the amazing material of Metal Clay. With this “clay like” material, you can design and create your own custom silver/copper jewelry. Check website class calendar. Perfect venue for a unique party experience for groups of 8-16 people.

Art Reach St. Croix

This non-profit promotes visual, literary and performing arts along the St. Croix River. Located across from the Stillwater Library, the light-filled galleries at ArtReach host rotating exhibitions of artists inspired by living along the St. Croix. The shows change frequently and feature ceramics, printmaking, painting, glass and more. View a list of local artists on their website as well.

Artful Indulgence: Paint. Sip. Nosh.

Find artful indulgence is an on-site paint and sip experience. It is a place where everyone is welcome to come join in the fun and use their own personality to indulge his or her inner artist and creativity.  Each and every session is exciting with a high-energy level where artists of all levels can enjoy themselves, socialize, learn and thrive with our step-by-step guide. Paint your own pottery and canvas studio where you are the artist.  All the materials are provided and an inspiring environment for your creativity to flow. Walk-ins welcome – there’s great local coffee so come in and paint! Book your next event at Kari’s Create & Paint Studio – From birthdays and bachelorette parties to showers and school outings – they can host any event, or come on-site at your desired location.

Led by a local art-loving, creative, re-purposing junkey, Marquess Studios is a unique space to attend a crafty workshop, host a girls night out Pinterest party, request custom orders via private appointment, or stop by for exclusive trunk shows. They have hand selected unique and vintage components to create jewelry, accessories, gifts and treasures that are one-of-a-kind. Her neat collection of items enhance special events, milestones, team-building and every-day conversation. Take a look at the event calendar and portfolio of recent creations! The studio space is located in historic Stillwater in a charming yellow house (which also happens to be the second oldest home) just up from the historic Lowell Inn on Myrtle St.

Murder Mystery Theatre

Immerse yourself in the story at this interactive murder mystery dinner theater experience. Shows perform at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Stillwater. Tickets include a 3 course meal and the 2 hour Interactive Murder Mystery Show. Order tickets online or call to speak to a detective. Our themes change several times a year for new crimes to solve!

River City Sculpture Tour

Stillwater’s historic district downtown will feature a year-long outdoor exhibit of free public art as multiple art sculptures by Midwest artists will be on display as part of a multi-city tour in the the St. Croix and Mississippi River Valleys.  Stroll downtown to see what you can find, snap a photo and don’t forget to #DiscoverStillwater! Sawdust Savvy

Sawdust Savvy offers wood crafting experiences with power tools, paint and stain- build-it-yourself workshops are fun! Bring your group 8 or more make your custom creation. By appointment only. Located in downtown Stillwater now in the historic Grand Garage building.

St. Croix Ballet

St. Croix Ballet…one of the Twin Cities top ballet training programs. Dancers present two full-length classical ballets each year — The Nutcracker and a spring show (past shows have included Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia) held at the Stillwater high school auditorium as well as a Summer Gala performance in Stillwater’s picturesque Pioneer Park.

The Outing Lodge

Look for themed dinners or book open art studio classes at this historic site. The culinary experiences are unique in our fast modern world – from Russia to Italy to Paris, France. A feeling of harmony flows from flavor to flavor, mixes in the conversation, the good company, the candlelight, and the music. The dinners follow recipes from European culinary schools. Menus include warm baguettes, pastureland creams and butters, extra virgin olive oil, organic produce and fresh meats. Loose teas & European Roasterie coffees accompany the desserts.  Let the countryside inspire your creativity with open studio art classes on drawing and painting – by reservation only for groups 2-25. Zephyr Studio

Classes for students in grades 1-12 to explore and study drama, comedy, or musical theatre while sharpening your acting skills in our temporary Main Street studio location.  Find class descriptions on our website.

Future plans: As a professional theatre in the St. Croix Valley, The 300-seat Zephyr Theatre at the old train depot will produce productions of the highest quality that are visually, acoustically, and artistically beautiful. We will create and revive classic musicals and plays, while incorporating music, musical cultures, and dance into the live arts in meaningful ways.
