A St. Croix River Crossing Loop Trail

The St. Croix River Crossing Loop Trail (MNDOT Fact Sheet, video animation) project will include construction of the trail from downtown Stillwater’s historic lift bridge over to Wisconsin and back across the new St. Croix Crossing bridge into downtown Stillwater along the river for a total of 4.7 miles.  As of August 3, 2017 the historic lift bridge is closed for renovations (Opens June 1, 2020) and the new bridge is open. The majority of the Loop Trail is complete (Progress Map) so you can enjoy a walk or bike ride over the new bridge for amazing views of the valley. Park near at Houlton Elementary school (70 Cty Rd E, Houlton, WI54082) on the Wisconsin side or downtown Stillwater in city lots or the new lot near the bridge just off hwy 95.  The best part to ride for now, is from downtown Stillwater south over the new St. Croix Crossing bridge. For an even longer route, ride through downtown Stillwater to connect with the Brown’s Creek State Trail on the north end. Segway tours are also available over the bridge! Refer to the map in our Visitor Guide and pictured above for all connecting trails.
